CoMpRessIOn what is it?
Image compression is the application of Data compression on digital images. In effect, the objective is to reduce redundancy of the image data in order to be able to store or transmit data in an efficient form.
Image compression can be lossy or lossless. Lossless compression is sometimes preferred for artificial images such as technical drawings, icons or comics. This is because lossy compression methods, especially when used at low bit rates, introduce compression artifacts. Lossless compression methods may also be preferred for high value content, such as medical imagery or image scans made for archival purposes. Lossy methods are especially suitable for natural images such as photos in applications where minor (sometimes imperceptible) loss of fidelity is acceptable to achieve a substantial reduction in bit rate. (Wikipedia.com)
In my own words.... compression is when you reduce the size of an image/whatever in order to save space.
lossy is when information that was once on/in the image is lost
lossless is when you didn't loss any of the information about the image, its saved or can be brought back.
i had to look this stuff up/ reread my notes because i had forgotten what these terms ment since the begining of class. oops!

Philly Project
For my project I'm going to take pictures of everyday items that i see on the parkway in Philly during my 20 min. walk to school. My project isn't going to be about one thing in gerneral. my first gathering was of trash cans, several different trash cans, some with trash in them, some with no trash in them and trash out side of them.
i also have pictures of different foot prints in the city which could be the next grouping of images and i have pictures of an accident that i didn't see but with various images i can create "the accident" based on what i took.
my project depends on what i collect through out the weeks.
